Many young people are drawn to the excitement and fun of a kids martial arts class. They learn effective self defense skills and develop their physical abilities; becoming more fit, coordinated and agile in the course of their training. That initial draw and excitement is met with ever greater challenges. These challenges in our kids martial arts classes train the students that hard work makes things happen! They continually strive forward, improving their abilities and learning the value of persistence.
We know that in a good kids martial arts program the member is developing their mind and self-image along with their bodies. Training in the arts requires (and develops) the ability to be deeply focused and disciplined - skills that prove to be highly useful beyond the studio. The young martial artist cultivates a higher level of personal awareness and self-confidence that will serve them well in dealing with the pressures of their life. A happily focused, confident, and disciplined attitude is the goal for all of our students.
NWIA's kids martial arts program teaches the disciplines of Muay Thai, Jeet Kune Do, and Jiu Jitsu. We teach with a focus on developing a deep understanding of all of the techniques in our curriculum. Upon reaching their Black belt our members have developed potent personal safety skills and habits of activity and discipline that can keep them healthy and vital for the rest of their lives.
NWIA's Youth Power Mission Statement:
At Northwest Internal Arts (NWIA), we strive to provide kids martial arts training that encourages personal growth and development within each of our students, emphasizing both physical and mental conditioning. Our support and varied curriculum inspires students to see beyond their current potential and to reach new levels of personal success. Students in our kids martial arts program benefit from their training by learn the skills of setting goals and working to achieve them, building character, and improving confidence and self-esteem. We train the entirety of our students, instilling in them traditional martial arts values of respect, self-discipline, honor, integrity, family, and courage, while cultivating leadership skills and social accountability.
Our kids martial arts class environment is above all supportive, as we focus on guiding each student in their martial arts experience toward discovering and claiming their own personal power while teaching the discipline and ethics to take responsibility for that power. We at NWIA believe that the martial artist is meant to be an active and positive influence within their community, providing both opportunity and encouragement for our youth to don such a role. Kids martial arts are more than a sport or after-school activity – they are a way of being, a lifestyle. It is our mission to be both guide and catalyst for each of our students on this path, nurturing their success to improve the individual, the school, the martial art, and the community.
Our kids martial arts program seeks in instill and cultivate character traits that will help each individual in our classes set and achieve their goals. We focus on ideals such as, courtesy, respect, perseverance, patience, honesty and teamwork. We believe that these personal skills are vital to success, not just in the martial arts, but in all areas of life. They are something to be trained and strengthened just as we do our physical bodies.
We incorporate character lessons into our training and in each class engage in a brief discussion of concepts like those mentioned above. Students are encouraged to find personal understanding and examples of each idea we discuss.
